How to maintain the infoRouter Database

infoRouter uses a database solution to store vital meta information about the documents in infoRouter. Each document in infoRouter consists of the document itself (which is stored in the warehouse) and various database entries. The database entries are Meta information that describes the document in detail. The Meta information is quite extensive and includes hundreds of data points such as the author, when it was created, if it is checked out, and who has access to this document to name just a few.

Supported database platforms

infoRouter currently supports three database platforms:

  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • MySQL
  • Oracle

How to maintain the infoRouter database:

Every database involves procedures that must be followed to maintain the integrity of the data within the database. A database that is not maintained properly will not perform properly and efficiently. A poorly maintained database is bound to get bloated and produce errors.

Maintenance of databases is crucial for ensuring the integrity, performance, and availability of critical data. Without proper maintenance, databases are susceptible to various issues such as data corruption, performance degradation, security vulnerabilities, and downtime. Over time, unchecked database growth can lead to inefficiencies in query processing, while outdated indexes may hamper search performance. Additionally, lack of regular backups increases the risk of data loss in the event of hardware failures or accidental deletions. Proper database maintenance not only safeguards against these potential pitfalls but also helps optimize resource utilization and ensures seamless operation of applications reliant on the database backend.

It is imperative for customers to uphold the maintenance of their database platforms, as these systems are fundamental to the smooth operation of their applications and services. However, it's essential to clarify that while we provide comprehensive support services for our products, offering assistance with database maintenance and administration falls outside the scope of our standard support agreement. Customers are responsible for managing and maintaining their database environments, including tasks such as backups, performance tuning, and routine maintenance. This approach ensures that customers retain control over their database platforms while also empowering them to tailor maintenance practices to their specific needs and requirements.

As a courtesy, we have provided links to the relevant pages of your database platform that may assist in implementing a maintenance plan. We strongly encourage you to create a maintenance plan and schedule this plan to run automatically on a nightly, weekly and monthly basis to make sure that basic database maintenance tasks always run and keep your database healthy at all times.
